Career
Ryo Kurazume was born in Miyazaki pref. in 1967. He received his M.E. and B.E. degrees from the Department of Mechanical Engineering Science, Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1991 and 1989, respectively. His Ph.D. degree was from the Department of Mechanical Engineering Science, Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1998. From 1991 to 1994, he worked as a researcher at Fujitsu Laboratories LTD. From 1995 to 2000, he was a research associate at Professor Shigeo Hirose's laboratory, Tokyo Institute of Technology. From 2000 to 2002, he was a post doctor at Professor Katsushi Ikeuchi's laboratory, Institute of Industrial Science, University of Tokyo. From 2002 to 2007, he was an associate professor at Professor Tsutomu Hasegawa's laboratory, the Graduate School of Information Science and Electrical Engineering, Kyushu University. Currently he is a professor at the Graduate School of Information Science and Electrical Engineering, Kyushu University. He was a Vice Dean at the Graduate School of Information Science and Electrical Engineering, Kyushu University (2016-2017, 2024-), a director of the Robotics Society of Japan (RSJ, 2009-2011, 2013-2015), the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers (SICE, 2013-2015), and the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME, 2021-2023), a division head of the JSME Robotics and Mechatronics Division (2019-2020), and JSPS Research Center for Science Systems, Program Officer (2023-2026). He received JSME Hatakeyama Award(1989), RSJ Best Paper Award(1993), RSJ Service Award(2008), JSME Robotics and Mechatronics Award(2009), ICEST Best Paper Award(2010), IEEE ROBIO T.J.Tarn Best Paper in Robotics(2010), Best Paper Award Candidate in Robotics Symposia(2010), JSME Robotics and Mechatronics Academic Achievement Award(2012), the 14th Symposium on Construction Robotics in Japan Best Paper Award(2014), RSJ Best Paper Award (2014), EST 2014 Best Paper in the Machine Vision Workshop(2014), SICE System Integration Division Research Award(2015), RSJ Fellow(2016), SICE System Integration Division Academic Achievement Award(2017), JSME Fellow(2018), IEEE Senior Member(2018), JSME Education Award(2019), JSME Robotics and Mechatronics Division Certificate of Merit for ROBOMECH Outstanding Research Activity(2019), SICE Fellow(2019), JSME Robotics and Mechatronics Division Robotics and Mechatronics Award(2021), SICE System Integration Division System Integration Certificate Merit for Outstanding Contribution(2021).
